FAQS
The questions we get most often.
I don't want to get sucked back into wasting time on an MMO while I'm job hunting
Fair, and honestly a good instinct. So here's the deal: this works as a scheduled thing to make severance or job-hunting a little less soul-crushing. The point is one or two sessions a week with the same people -- a few dungeons, a raid -- not 40 hours of solo farming. If you find yourself spending all day on the game and avoiding your real life, that's a signal to step back, and we'll be the first to tell you.
Aren't you just avoiding important life responsibilities by playing a 20-year old video game?
We are providing structure and community when the corporate world has stripped those away. We're not avoiding responsibility but taking a break, regrouping, and applying ourselves to a different type of grind. One that's actually fun!
I'm still employed / I'm a PM, not a SWE / I'm not laid off — can I join?
Yes. The common thread is being in tech and feeling the ground shift underneath us, not our current employment status. Employed folks, designers, PMs, data people, laid-off, involuntarily reassigned — every one is welcome. And feel free to bring your friends. We know the high school gaming buddies be crawlin' outta the woodwork for Forever.
Is this a reaction to AI taking tech jobs?
Yea, kind of. Messaging about AI has been at the center of all the massive layoffs happening across the technology industry. And every software engineer knows that the day-to-day functions of their career has been forever changed by LLMs. We're using this space to organize, discuss, and advocate for a more equitable future in tech.
How much of a commitment is it?
As little as you want. There's no attendance policy and no obligation to raid. Our progression is dictated by our member base, which right now is small and growing.
Are you playing Horde or Alliance?
Ahhh jeez, the eternal question! We're divided, so come join and help us decide before Forever launches. To help you make your decision though, did you know that the Blizzard team spent almost the same amount of time refining and polishing the leveling experience from Elwynn Forest through Duskwood as they did rushing through the rest of the game's remaining 30+ zones?
